Also, based on Frequent Miler's 2014 article, partner awards don't get priced segment by segment, instead they are priced by total distance like ANA's old distance based chart.
With the new charts, there are some decent redemptions through IB+, and hopefully may not be surcharges in the Americas. I am looking at an Avianca redemption that would squeeze in under 5000 miles total distance for 28k Avios in economy, but a stopover and/or OJ would be ideal.
Only 1 data point, but I had the agent price a 2-segment one-way (might be seen as a double open jaw). I fed her the segments and she asked if this was one-way or roundtrip, and I asked if the 2 segments could be treated as an open jaw. The agent said "roundtrip returning to the same city." She was able to price the award. It seemed like open jaw is out, but did not HUCA.
In the past, LATAM (probably when it was just LAN), permitted a double open jaw. It did require 2 segments, but they could be two totally different legs (e.g., LGA-DCA, MIA-MCO). I don't know if this has changed, but the program appears to be different.
