US airlines have no weight limits but most airlines elsewhere do, with limits lower than 18kg in J far from rare, and some of them do enforce them to some extent, although systematic checks and checks elsewhere than at check-in are rare. I was once forced to check in a bag by NZ at LAX while flying J with a case weighing roughly 12 kg as this was above their 7kg limit.
