What you were told by the person at BA
IS wrong, if the cabin is not needed you will be seat shifted back into whatever is available at that time. Given that BA are still willing to sell 9 CW seats just 2 days in advance of the flight, and in each of the other cabins, I would say that the chance that they need to use the F cabin is very slim. Therefore I would get yourself back in 7K ASAP.
