BA's Swiss ground staff are probably wrong and definitely wrong.

That's just flatly wrong. BA are liable for the transportation to the alternate origin airport (and from the alternate destination to the actual destination, if different). You'll have to claim that afterwards, I'm afraid.

If you want to try to get BA into a slightly more trouble for not rerouting you onto LX or pro-actively paying for transport, you can complain to the CAA: https://www.caa.co.uk/Passengers/Res...e-a-complaint/ but that will only add to the (hopefully large) pile of complaints about BA on this issue about which the CAA seems to take little action. The CAA is not an enthusiastic consumer regulator but weight of complaints may eventually cause action.

For getting your train fare back, use the processes in the EC261 thread - first contact BA stating the facts and claiming the ticket price, then if necessary threaten MCOL, actually file for MCOL, or use the ADR process.
