I haven't heard of segments being carried over, you'll have to add 24K including 4 A3 or OA flights to upgrade from *S to *G.
As for the 9 days they're more than enough. Even if you are flying at the time of your *S upgrade, any excess miles would be carried over towards your next upgrade.
