Unlike US which has FICO score, each Japanese credit card Cos do their own scoring based on their own system. Maybe JL card is more cautious on certain aspects than others?
Slightly OT - I have met a man who owns 50 Japanese credit cards, but then again he is probably a special case as he’s the editor of a point analysis website..
You bring up a really good and interesting point that is unique to Japanese cards. I probably have too many, but from a points/travel perspective, I don’t think it’s unreasonable, so it’s hard to think what to cancel. I have:
ANA ToMe Card JCB (with Pasmo built in)
ANA Wide Gold JCB (for future SFC)
Rakuten Premium VISA (for Priority Pass)
Amex Gold (plan to cancel in July)
Amex Green (cancel by next Jan.)
Amex Biz Gold (cancel maybe by August)
Delta Amex Blue (def don’t need this one)
MUFJ United Mastercard
I guess I should get rid of the Amex cards I dont need and then wait 6 months to re-apply for JAL. Does cancelling a Japanese Card affect the Japanese credit score?
