Cancelling advance rate booking when pool is closed?

I've just noticed when I went to print my booking that the pool at the Shanghai Marriot is now closed during my stay, which is on a non-cancellable advance rate. The pool is important to me (and more important to my wife), so do marriot usually allow free cancellations in cases like this? I can see on my confirmation email that the "alerts" section said nothing about the pool being closed when I booked.

Obviously I'll just be asking Marriot directly too, but I'm asking to see if there is precedent, i.e. how hard I should push.
