It does not necessarily be a code-share flight. It all depends on your frequent flyer program rules. So, you just need to call your program's customer service rep. and ask for details about award travel on a partner's flight. Once you know the exact rules, code-share necessary or not, and which partner you can book on, just do a search on your preferred airline's web and for all flights you want to travel on.

I did a star-alliance F award earlier this year by using United miles, and I just researched all flights on TG/ SQ I wanted to travel on. Then, I called UA award and got the job done. But, the agent had some problem locating some flights at first, and my list of flights flying between the city paris was useful in talking to them.

I think most people are pretty nice here, and no one possess all knowledge. So, feel free to ask anything, and someone will help!
