In response to your posting, and since you are a United Airlines employee, I would like to ask what transpired to the option that allowed Premier Members to "Buy-up" to First or Business vs. using Global, Regional, or Miles upgrades. I travel frequently, have lifetime status, and was accustomed to buying up to first. In return, the amount paid counted towards my PQD, and the bonus miles were higher. As of recent, that option is no longer available when you open the reservation and attempt to complete the transaction. The only option is to upgrade for the same dollar amount, but the original fare and qualifications remain in place. I noticed this change in my last 3 flights. With the buy-up option, the rules were clear and often changed the fare to a Z class vs. what is now a P class. Would appreciate your thoughts, or if anyone else has experienced this recent change, I welcome your input.
Thank you
Daniel
The option to buy up still exists, but it is now only available by phone. 'GG BUYUP' are the instructions to reference if the agent is unfamiliar. The online upgrade options on the website have been harmonized as a fee rather than a fare difference.
p.s. I don't believe 'Mr. Goldberg' (UA Insider) responds to this board any longer, except on very rare occasions.
p.p.s. welcome to flyertalk,
