I recently flew out of there the first time, and while I appreciated the smaller terminal and short lines, I found the DL staff and supervisors clueless about policies or how to deal with HVCs.
They have a lot to learn and I won't choose them in the future for a departure point. SFO feels just as small (with PreCheck and CLEAR) and the staff plus the club are all leaps and bounds better.
I live in Santa Cruz so if I have an early flight from SJC I can be from my door to sitting at the gate with a Starbucks in 45 minutes. I can get through security at SFO just as quick as SJC but the drive makes the difference. I have found the staff at SJC to be knowledgable and helpful. I have noticed quite a few more "manager" level people there recently.
There is a Priority Pass lounge at SJC however it's a bit of a hike from the DL gates.
Every DL survey I get they ask what they can do better and I always say open a lounge in the old Admirals Club location.
