A quick RT search on airfrance.us shows LAX-CDG-HKG to be $1297 outbound on 7/3 (AF 69 -> AF 188) and HKG-CDG-AMS-LAX for $1330 returning on 7/9 (AF185 -> AF 1240 -> AF 8452 [KLM]). That gives a total cost 2,626.82 for your RT to earn over 7k MQDs. That being said, the premium economy fare differs a huge amount depending when you fly. On friday/saturday/sunday they return HKG-LAX they wanted over 4k for the premium economy fare. I didn't look extensively into fare rules if it's something to do with a minimum stay, or if those days are just more expensive. Also I'm sure if someone wanted to do this they could look further in order to get the HKG-CDG-LAX routing for the return instead of going through AMS, it is definitely listed as available, but was either more expensive or sold out on the days I looked at.
I'd be curious about that return leg (AMS-LAX on KLM). KLM doesn't have Premium Economy, so I'm wondering what that would book into, and how it would credit.
