My friend has an upcoming trip ORD-YYZ-HKG. ORD-YYZ in Y on AC; YYZ-HKG in J on CX. Will AC be able/willing to check his luggage all the way to HKG? Will he need to clear immigration and customs at YYZ? All segments on one ticket. Thanks in advance.
Yes. CX and AC both interline and codeshare on some flights.
In YYZ, bags will automatically transfer. The "customs/immigration" process in YYZ is extremely smooth and simplified when staying in Terminal 1. Unfortunately, AC and CX operate out of different terminals. AC will arrive in Terminal 1, instead of following signs for international connections, your friend is going to have to following signs for domestic arrival. Once land side they will need to take the people mover over to terminal 3 and then check-in with CX if they don't already have boarding passes.
