I stayed there in December 17. Overall a good choice, but primarily driven by the low price. Service was extremely friendly.
Platinum benefits: breakfast (agree with willfam3, nothing special, but solid), room on top floor (but small), voucher for drinks + food at bar, late checkout, points.
Things that I remember negatively: pool area is extremely windy & cold. SPG rooms are really small. Repeated confusion whether coffee beverages (latte etc.) are free for platinum.
