From the web I found that you too can start your own luggage-wrapping business, just as they do in Bulgaria (
http://baggagewrapping.tripod.com/)
"We are selling airport baggage luggage wrapping equipment - the model BW-400 is the most advanced model for starting this business. Just contact us to receive our price quotation plus delivery option. By wrapping the luggage with a special plastic folio passengers can protect their personal belongings from theft, pilferage, damage and thus to avoid most problems with the baggage during the transportation. Than take on board the aircraft and enjoy the flight!"
But the GTAA has already given the concession out at YYZ.
Of course, no sniffer device or dog will get through that stuff either and security won't bother opening your bag. Sounds like a great idea for bringing in extra strong salami or other items. I guess I answered my questions.
Actually, the claim is that you use the wrap to prevent people adding explosives and drugs into your baggage:
"Indispensable for securing accidental opening, pilferage, tampering, damage, smuggling and theft of luggage and parcels. Provide easily verifiable signs of intrusions to baggage that adds to increase security against placing in them explosive, contraband or dangerous materials" (
