Why would you want to connect in SJC instead of PDX/SEA? “Because it might be cheaper” means “So AS needs to undercut itself at main hubs to support EUG-SJC”, and another way of saying “the route probably can’t support itself”.
If you are going to Mexico, Southern California, or Hawaii, one could easily argue that SJC is a preferred place to connect
and, my original question/comment was about timing, not pricing.
