Question Carry-on Size on a CRJ??

Hello!

Please excuse my ignorance...I am a very infrequent flyer...once a year for vacation and that's it. I like to be prepared because I do not want to be an inconvenience to those who have to fly out of necessity.

I will be flying to Orlando with my teenage daughters this fall and we just had an equipment change. We fly from GRR-DTW, then from DTW-MCO and I booked the "main cabin" (I don't know the letter) fares so that we would have pre-assigned seats. I just noticed that our GRR-DTW changed from an Airbus to a CRJ700. I kind of assumed it would since the Airbus seemed like a very large aircraft for a very short flight. I needed to select my seats and noticed that the plane "shrunk"

On to my question...I am concerned about our luggage. We normally fly with just our carry-on luggage. We have (2) hardside spinners that measure 22 x 14 x 9 and I am wondering if they will fit in the overhead bin on the CRJ. They meet the requirements that are posted on the Delta website, but I know that the CRJ's have smaller bins than the larger planes. That leads me to my next question. Would we be able to check them at the gate and get them back when we deplane in Detroit? I do not want to have to go to baggage claim when we arrive in Orlando. If I have to check them, then I will pack them a little differently, or maybe even use a different suitcase. Right now, I just want to be prepared.

Thanks in advance for any tips or advice you may have.
