I agree. The best gift you can give yourself is to build up currency in 2 or 3 different programs between now and 2022. There's both the issue of award availability and currency devaluation in any program. Australia is a tough get. Consider AS and its partnership with CX. Today, the award chart shows 60K for business and 80K for First. You're allowed a stopover in Hong Kong, one of my favorite cities in the world. CX currently has 6 gateway cities in Australia, so many options from HKG. BUT programs can change on a moment's notice. AS doubled the miles required to redeem on Emirates to Africa without any advanced warning whatsoever.
