Gig103s is quite a sensible post. The biggest overriding factor to status in terms of any particular alliance is more about where you are based. If you're going to take the majority of your flights from LHR/London and the majority will be in premium cabins, then you should really consider trying both Virgin and BAs Premium offerings to see which you prefer. Then let the 'alliance' lead you from there, not the other way round.
