I go for the common area architecture, the history, the location, and the old-school vibe (not to mention the really cheap rates I often land).
The Palmer House has a lot of charm. As many times as I've stayed there I've never had two rooms that were the same and it's not your typical cookie cutter hotel. I have a room I prefer now and always request and the cleaning lady always remembers me. My biggest complaints are you can have noise issues in some rooms and the lounge congestion situation (that has improved a lot since they restrict it to diamonds and people on 22 and 23) and long check in lines sometimes (they need better hours for the dedicated diamond check in desk). I miss the days of them offering a 4 PM checkout to diamonds.
The location can't be beat.
