The best flights I've ever had on Delta were in the 1980s where they would serve you until the aircraft was #2 for departure. I had a number of upgrades on the DCA-ATL route where there would be 10 or more aircraft ahead of us waiting to takeoff, and the friendly Delta FAs kept your drink full virtually until the top of the runway.
