People need to realize that they are likely bumping into inventory restrictions when they try to do this. If you have a P/Z, there's a very good chance you bought a codeshare because it cost thousands less than the same flight booked under native flight number.
I tried a few times using the 1K help desk and sometimes they really tried converting it. But they were never successful because they only do it for a D and higher fare. Anyway, given that the bonus miles are pretty low on those fares anyway I decided to by those fares on LH ticket stock directly (220*) and apply GPUs on them. Cannot report success, though as I'm still on the wait list.
