I think that it may be that hotels internationally have historically been more likely to include breakfast with the room (in the rate).
Even as Hampton and HGI, etc breakfasts have gotten better in the US, Hamptons and HGIs internationally serve better breakfasts generally. At least in my experience -- HGI/Delhi-Saket, Hampton Berlin, HGI Hanoi.
English breakfast buffets I've had at DT Greenwich, DT Islington, and Hilton Islington are often more elaborate than almost anything in the US. (In fact, as a gold on a Priceline stay at the Hilton Islington I was comped for the full breakfast every day.)
And this seems standard across all of the chains, not just Hilton. Holiday Inn Express breakfasts, in my experience are much better at many Asian locations. Hyatt Place AMS serves a much better breakfast than any Hyatt Place in the US.
