Is it worth it to buy the legroom? Depends on your size and comfort level. Personally, I think it is.

Will a preferred seat be cheaper or free? No.

Will you be offered an an upgrade at check-in? Probably, if space is still available. Will it be more than what they are asking now? Probably.
