I don't know how you feel, but I think it's time that something was done about this.
Are there any thoughts, suggestions... is there anything that can be done?
Yes. In the future you should be more careful not to keep your savings in weak currencies. I don't think the MAN airport tax has gone up so much...it's more likely you're seeing an increase because the dollar has cheapened...
At the end of the day these taxes aren't too high relative to your ticket price. On my next ticket I have to pay taxes of £52.10 on top of a £139 fare. I am not so worried about having to pay airp taxes or how much they are, after all airfares seem to be getting cheaper by the day. My real problem with airport taxes is that I don't know what exactly they are for. If they are for check-in facilities, airbridges/buses, airport maintainance, security and development they're a bloody good deal...If, on the other hand, all of the above are included in the "fare" component and the tax is only paid for the privilege of using the respective country's airspace, then you will be having me on your side in the next FT demonstration.
