Amtrak employees on Amtrak
I travel the North East corridor quite a bit on Amtrak. I’ve noticed a fairly large number of Amtrak employees traveling on Amtrak as well. I base this on the company swag and associate ID’s.
No issue with Amtrak employees moving around by train, but do they pay for their commuting capacity? Or is this an Amtrak perk?
If the associates pay themselves, then no big deal. But if Amtrak is financing this activity, could they not go on the lower fare routes/options? I see the Amtrak associates on Acela and NE Regional business class. These are busy routes that a full fare customer could be paying for....especially weekday morning Acela routes.
I don’t have hard data on the number of Amtrak employees on the train, but at the station I typically depart from, it’s common to witness 5-10 Amtrak associates boarding as well.
i know airlines do something similar, just doesn’t seem such a common practice.
