Not sure if this is the right place to post as this is (mostly) TripAdvisor's decision, not CX's, but it only becomes a problem because I am trying to earn AM.
Per
https://www.asiamiles.com/en/earn-mi...ml/tripadvisor, one can earn Asia Miles by writing TripAdvisor reviews in Traditional Chinese. I have long been writing bilingual TripAdvisor reviews, meaning I write the same review in Traditional Chinese and also in English and in one post. I believe it helps my review to be understood by a greater range of readers.
I was naturally happy with the introduction of this mileage earning opportunity and thought that as long as my review contains a full review in Traditional Chinese, it would be fine for me to accompany it with an English translation. I was wrong. After a few months, I see no miles posted, so I contacted TripAdvisor. They said that my reviews don't count, because I was writing bilingual reviews. Even though what I wrote in Chinese and English are identical, they said an English translation following the Chinese review is not allowed, and I am supposed to write reviews in Traditional Chinese only, if I want to earn miles. They said my translation is not needed because they have a software that can translate reviews to different languages.
After a lot of fights back and forth, they finally agreed to make an "exception" for me - They will give me the miles, but I must re-submit all the reviews I posted in the past few months (and TripAdvisor took them down) in Traditional Chinese only. Reluctantly, I obliged. I was a happy volunteer review poster and had no problem writing in both languages, both containing a comprehensive yet identical review of the hotel. Now, I'm not even sure if I want to write reviews anymore. I probably will, when I have time, but it left such a sour taste, and I don't even understand why TripAdvisor insisted that no English translation is allowed. Since my "revised" reviews were only written in Chinese, several hotels not located in Chinese-speaking areas that had previously responded to me responded to me again, but clearly did not understand what I wrote this time (whereas last time they did). I imagine it will be quite difficult for future hotels I stay to understand what I wrote, if I do write, if they are not located in Chinese-speaking areas.
In short, just be aware that if you want to earn miles by writing Traditional Chinese TripAdvisor review, you will not earn it if you thought you are being nice to add a translation in another language.
