But I'm wondering if I will in fact be able to get my CX boarding pass at NRT check-in. The DEL departure is only 16 hours after the NRT departure (i.e., <24) but it is after midnight so, technically, the next day. If I am not able to get both BPs at the NRT check-in, will I be able to get the CX BP at the DEL transfer desk immediately when I arrive?

I am a bit nervous because I had a similar sort of transit onto CX at CMB last year and the CMB transfer desk wasn't able to give me my CX BP until the local CX check-in opened, three hours before departure. I didn't want to go landside, and without a BP I couldn't get into the lounge (I did ask), so I had to cool my heels for several hours in the hallway waiting to get the BP.

I truly hope I'm not in for something like that again at DEL.
Have never been to DEL but "next day" should not be an issue. Many flights going from East Asia to Europe with a transfer to another flight would have the same "next day" issue. If there were to be any problem, it would be because when you check-in at NRT, it is still more than 24 hours before your CX flight departs. However, that should be a small problem, and I don't think it would cause any issue at the end. JL will through-check to another oneworld flight whether on the same PNR or not. See www.jal.co.jp/en/info/inter/161003.html. You can also try to self-print boarding pass online if JL cannot print it for you (and I will recommend trying it after JL has tried it).
