Is there a definitive time-frame for which agents can process the upgrade? I tried 2 times during a 1 hr connection and was told both times that there isn't enough time to process the upgrade.
Anyone with short connection was able to get around this?

Yes. I went to the gate and asked the Senior Agent or even Team Leader at the gate to process if need be (or ask them to call one of those level people)
The only time I asked a Senior Agent at the gate for AMS-PDX when they couldn't do the upgrade in the lounge - the Senior Agent did it at the gate without charge (nor did she say much; she just took my old BP, printed a new one for 3D and said 'no charge')
Technically not an op up as Y wasn't full but...worked out in the end
