If you are saying he has to get the code of the other offer in order to get matched to it, that is completely incorrect.
No need for a code of any kind. Just message them through the website and say you saw a better offer for X miles. Read back the last few days and you'll see folks say they get up to 75K miles (as I did), but I think the max match is up to 20K additional.
