TSA claims that random precheck has ended but this is far from the truth. My parents fly about once every couple months (usually on F9 or DL) and have never applied for GE/Pre, yet they receive precheck on their BPs around 90% of the time.
It's so regular for them that they were recently complaining about the last time my mom got it and dad didn't and he had to split off to the regular line and unpack all his electronics and stuff which he had packed in anticipation of not having regular screening.
Why didn't your Dad and Mom swap bags, if she indeed had her own, and thus he could have avoided the unpacking? She would only have had to put his on the conveyor belt! Strange!
And for the cost of $85 for five years, I don't know why anyone would still take a chance on getting free Pre-Check anyway!
