Have you considered something with a domestic connection (eg LAX-BNE-SYD-CGK), same number of points but you don't have to worry about asking them not to through check any luggage, as you will have to collect in BNE anyway.

The only two potential downsides with original route I can see is extra points required, and IRROPS. If something goes wrong with the LAX-BNE flight, they may try rebooking you on CX, LAX-HKG instead.
