Thank you for everyone's input on Flyertalk regarding this incident your knowledge and answers are very much appreciated.
Although I did not want to name the hotel as they have always been very kind to me Hugolover has revealed that it was the Conrad Algarve.
I actually received a telephone call from a manager at the hotel today who explained that it was a human error and they apologised profusely which I accepted immediately because they were honest and told the truth which counts for a lot to me, yes it shouldn't of happened but we are all human and mistakes happen.
If this issue had been at a hotel I had not stayed at before I would of named them and I can assure everyone that the Conrad Algarve is an outstanding hotel infact it is one of my favourite hotels and there is no need to be wary of staying here on the contary you should book here give them a try !!
I am more annoyed at my credit card company for making this issue into a major drama.
I have made a complaint with them and if it is not handled well I will be looking into the recommendations of alternative credit card companies that previous posters have mentioned above.
