Interesting question, though given I only joined a few years ago, and spent the first couple of those scraping my way to Silver, not one to trouble me personally any time soon!

It doesn't appear to be absolutely clear, but based on a reading of the T&Cs here: https://www.britishairways.com/en-gb...and-conditions I would conclude they are saying it is not necessary.

My thinking behind this is that if you look at section 6.2 for 'regular' earning, it explicitly calls out the flight requirements, whereas if you look to 6.4 it does not, instead simply saying (bold emphasis mine):

6.4. Gold status may also be earned through accumulating the required number of Lifetime Tier Points. The status will be automatically renewed each year while the Member remains in the Executive Club.
So by that reading, the flights are not needed. Of course section 7 which deals with LTG pretty much gives them carte blanche to revoke it, change it, do whatever they want with 6 months notice, so if the numbers became an issue for them, that might change.
