Lucanesque next time, it's much easier to simply hold the booking then call AA's UK number (or whatever local number you prefer) and ask them to change it to GBP. It's worked for me the last 3 times and for others almost without fail. On one occasion I did get an AA agent who didn't know how to do it, but I was transferred to someone who did.
