I've delayed going to the airport at outstations where it was clear that no aircraft would be arriving for some hours, despite the standard messaging of being told to turn up on time. I accept that was my choice, and my risk if suddenly a plane and crew had appeared ahead of the delayed incoming flight. I wouldn't take that risk at LHR unless explicitly told to do so.
