I'm in the sane boat as OP. The credit card offerings in Japan is nothing compared to the US cards, (unlike Delta, whose Japanese Gold Amex offers promotional Gold Medallion status) so I'm looking to apply for a Chade card as well while keeping my overseas PQD waiver.
I wasn't saying there's no need for a UA CC. I was saying that as an overseas resident, OP doesn't need a CC to get the PQD waiver. But OP explained above what he/she meant regarding the PQD waiver (concern that applying for a UA CC will change the residency from "foreign" to "USA," meaning no more overseas PQD waiver - which, as explained above, won't happen)
