Several questions about "best seats" in the new PE cabin, here's my experience (as a solo traveler) on AA 193 (LAXHKG) on 27 APR 2018.
I selected 16C as I am not a window seat person, nor do I care if there is a window by the seat.
I actually prefer a window seat with no window esp. if it's a day flight.
All of row 16 was occupied, row 17 was about 50% occupied but rows 18 & 19 were pretty empty esp. the middle 4 seats (DEGH)
The armrests do not lift up so even if u had 4 empty seats to yourself, you can't lie flat like some of the pax in Y managed to do so.
Getting out of the window seat or the middle seat (EG) to go to the bathroom might prove to be a challenge, especially if u are seated next to a stranger.
The woman behind me (17A) got up a few times & each time she pulled my seat back or my neighbor's because her husband was dead asleep.
I was this close to telling her off ...
Now on to the service -
I understand that the actual PE service has not fully rolled out yet (Jun. 2018) but hopefully, it'll be better that what I experienced.
The FA's on my flight seemed particular disinterested & although the PE hard product was excellent, the FA's were definitely the weakest link.
The cabin is very comfortable, and the IFE & seats are brand new so it feels really good, even on a 15 hour flight.
I particularly enjoyed watching uncensored versions of the HBO series & movies, something which we don't get back in Asia.
The other annoyance would be from other passengers in the cabin, especially the ones who have no understanding of using their inside voice when in an enclosed space while others are trying to sleep. And you guessed it, it was the couple behind me in 17AC.
My seat mate was awesome, he slept as soon as we took off & didn't wake up till breakfast time ^
And as expected, as soon as the plane parked at the gate at HKIA & before the seat belt sign was turned off, almost everyone was out of their seats.
A petite young lady at 18C collected my backpack & carryon from the overhead cabin above her & passed it to me so that I could deplane with the rest of the PE pax, although I told her I didn't mind waiting but she insisted.
The way I see it, PE is just Y but with a menu card, amenities, wider seats & slightly more space.
I'd suggest to manage your expectations & you'll have a good flight.
I'm not sure if the PE meals were the same as the ones served in Y but I'll post some pics of the meals I had on the relevant thread.
