A little late to the party, as I can see the OP has already decided to purchase fares in business on this routing, however if the info helps anyone else, here we go..
I flew HNL-->MEL in Jan 2018 on JQ Max bundle fare. I had to book and pay before I could select ANY of the extras, the booking was made from AUS. The booking was made through QF and my outbound was SYD-->HNL. I had a separate booking reference for the JQ portion of the fare. My extra baggage allowance never showed at all through the JQ reference and I ended up on the JQ online chat confirming I indeed had 2x23kgs of checked luggage included. I did not have a problem at the airport check in. The line to check in was very very long, but processed efficiently. If in business you can enter the shorter priority line. On my flight, it was not at all obvious of where to go, the check in desks used were the very end of the terminal and the priority area was a round about side on to those.
The image posted in post #9 is not a meal served through the Max bundle in economy. My bundle allowed me to choose one main in either the first OR second meal service for free. I chose the first and then bought on board for the second service. I bought the wine and cheese platter for two (and ate it all myself!) and can recommend this. The main comes with a coffee or a tea, not water, not soft drink, one hot drink only. Other drinks can be purchased separately.
For a day time flight you really can't go wrong the JQ direct flight into MEL. I sat in seat 10G which is the first row of economy on the aisle. I would not recommend this seat at all because the leg room infringes into the aisle and the curtain partition with business class. The curtain partition never closed all of the way and any time a cabin crew member walked through the curtain (more frequent that you would expect) it was like they were entering a fashion show and flinging them open as far and wide as possible - hitting me. The next time I do this flight I will be selecting a window seat.
Have a good trip Wx4!
