It's none of my business but if I knew you as a friend, I would be asking you why in the world you even use an AMEX card. There are far better credit cards available to you as a Brit for whatever needs you have. Check the moneysavingexpert site for which credit cards and debit cards are best currently for your needs. Getting a fee free debit or credit card is not difficult to do in the UK.
To me, AMEX is like the Dodo, extinct (well almost in the case of AMEX). Those still using one are simply not aware of the better cards out there to have.
