Happened to be in KOA this past week, local radio was buzzing with interisland announcement.
Amazing how WN marketing is so effective at creating buzz in the absence of real news - still NO indication of when service may actually begin, how it will be rolled out.
Considering the number of aircraft and staff required to add such a significant amount of service, it will likely be YEARS - if EVER - before WN is actually offering close to daily service on 32 new 5+ hour ETOPS flights (4 Ca cities x 4 Hawaii cities x 2 out-back), PLUS interisland service. Adding once or twice weekly flights from each pair will barely put a dent in AS' current dominant position, be just enough capacity to satisfy pent up demand for award travel from WN loyalists, pitchforks will come out of Kelly attempts to limit RR redemption, jack up WGA rates for Hawaii.
I see the ongoing announcements as a little more than attempts to change the now repeated engine failure subject; discourage WN fans from jumping on the AS bandwagon, delaying any Hawaii plans for as long as possible, taking the AS credit card $99 companion pass plunge.
Move along folks, still nothing to see here...
