Phones and tablets (and associated cables) are OK but not laptops. There is guidance on the embassy website what is and isn't allowed. There is NO blanket ban on taking small bags into the embassy.

So before asking how to store, do you need to? I took a carry on into a US facility and while they opened/ scanned it carefully (and, tbh, I think were expecting to find laptop etc) they happily let it and me through.
