Booked my wife and daughter (both w/ no status) on a trip through AA Vacations, both on same PNR.
When miles posted, both passengers had same amount of EQM's, segments and base award miles. However,
- Daughter's EQD's were caculated as 'distance- special fare'
- Wife's EQD's were calculated as 'distance- data unavailable'
The net is that my daughter got about 50% more EQD's than wife. Not a huge deal, but it pushed her to gold status which then gave her the gold mileage bonus (so she earned about 40% more award miles than wife).
This doesn't sound right since "data unavailable" has a higher EQD earning than "special fare" except for Q and O classes where they are the same; unless they were in different booking classes, the "data unavailable" booking should not have been able to have a lower earning
