I agree, never hurts to check with the desk. Anytime there are weather or operational disruptions, they'll usually take the chance to move people over to YYJ or YCD earlier if there are seats available. The big caveat is that I wouldn't expect them to do it if you have checked baggage, as that creates additional work to execute, whether they find your bag and send it with you, or send it on your scheduled flight.
