Fashion Island is a very swanky shopping center in Newport Beach. There's a Roy's (of Hawaiian/Pacific Rim fame) Restaurant there.
UC-Irvine is also close for concerts or other campus activities. It's a lovely drive down PCH to Laguna and Dana Point
