lol in high school orchestra (not a good orchestra), we had a flight Ellington-IAH-nyc back in the days of no real security. But i heard it was shut down because they didn't want to (and makes sense) invest in big airport security...though it is a military airport.

the beltway was pretty new and would now provide a direct circular path to the airport without that fun downtown 45 mess.
