Hello,

From reading your post, I am similarly disabled, ie a crutches user, who cannot walk very far, or at any reasonable speed, so need wheelchair assistance at airports, particularly large terminals or for terminal changes etc.

Only last month, I transited through Terminal 5 Heathrow (twice) with booked wheelchair assistance.

The wheelchair people were waiting for me on the jet bridge with the booked wheelchair (in fact there were multiple wheelchairs booked for various people who had trouble walking).

They will take you anywhere you want/need to go, including to any lounge you may have access to. They then take you to a special staffed 'assistance waiting area' in the departure lounge to await your connecting flight. Incase of any worries about your connection, the staff there will reassure you that you will be taken to your connecting flight in time (I had asked twice!).

When it is known which gate one's flight is going from, they will then take you to the relevant gate (They can take you via the lifts and underground walkway to the two satellite terminals). At the gate, I and the other wheelchair passengers were boarded first via the jet bridge.

Overall, it ran very smoothly for me, not only at Terminal 5, but at Manchester, Chicago, Dallas Fort Worth and even Albuquerque.

At Heathrow, it is all run by Omniserve people on behalf of Heathrow. The contact number to confirm or change arrangements is: 0844 335 1801.

Overall the staff were very helpful, cheerful and willing to take me anywhere (barring in the toilets).

I have booked the special assistance again for next month, as like yourself I am also travelling to Boston (from Manchester via Heathrow.T5)..
