The Captain then came from the flight deck, walked up to this lady, and within 15 seconds said "Ma'am, you're going to have to take your son and leave the plane.". And then the lady stood up and removed herself and her son from the plane, only to have another FA say to her, on the way out, "This is happening because you questioned a rule.", or anything even close to that, has got to be extremely gullible.

I don't believe this.

What I believe is she sat in her reassigned seat behind her son. She asked for the policy again. It sounds like both sides agree she was not belligerant.

Someone felt she might be greater problem on the Long haul, so, out of an abundance of caution it was time to boot her.

Of course, I assume anyone willing to go public with a story would check themselves for objectivity before blabbing... And since we've only heard from one side, it seems only one side is confident enough to publically blab, thus winning benefit of the doubt for the time being.

It seems the only way to get the other side to be public is to drag their asses in to court.

Ok, I finally had opportunity to watch the video on Global. What she says does not match what the article states.

My transcription of her (mom's) words from the video:
The captain basically said if you're not going to this, uh, seating situation I'm going to have to get you off the plane. It happened in less than 15 seconds ...

On this basis, I will assume she did not sit her butt down behind the kid and thus voluntarily offloaded. Ignore everything above. Any compensation given to her is merely PR/CustSat... 14hr cooldown I guess was what she needed.

Upon reviewing the video she states none of the other classes were available.
