Interesting. When I purchased the ticket there was R availability for HNL to GUM but not EWR to HNL. I spoke to a very knowledgeable agent at the time of ticketing and she stated that the paid R upgrade could be used for the EWR - HNL segment if an R seat opened later. Is it possible there is a slightly different rule when buying an R that covers multiple segments?
