I use NEXUS (which includes GE benefits), and cross a couple of times every couple of years by air, and once a month by land. Other than to pay taxes owing (coming home to Canada, and not even always then), I've not had to go to secondary inspection once since I got NEXUS (8 years ago).

Of course, I'm cursing myself because I'm doing a land crossing of the SK/MT border tomorrow
