Mainland China (XIY, KWL,PVG,PEK) - almost every passenger received invasive pat downs. Some screeners put their hands inside people's clothes. I now have a greater appreciation for the TSA pat downs after my China experience.
Agreed - China was the most invasive pat downs - full on arms, legs, torso, neck, armpit, fingers around waistband and even had me remove shoes ! Quite short of a strip search!

In China, my carry-on luggage had the most Xray screening ever - twice when you land, twice when you depart, multiply by 4 airport passages = 16 Xray - may have irradiated my laptop!

Korea was very polite with pat downs - back of the hand pat downs and used mostly metal detector wands.

Japan was nice - but still back of the hand pat downs....
